THE PROBLEM WORTH SOLVING

Apple Education needed a single pop-up event structure — the Molo — that could travel across four wildly different markets: the Netherlands, the UK & Ireland, Italy, and Thailand. The risk was obvious. A design built around one market's habits would feel wrong, or worse, generic, everywhere else. Apple doesn't do generic.

THE INSIGHT THAT UNLOCKED IT

The differences between these markets weren't really about taste, they were about education systems. The Netherlands tracks students at 12; Italy at 14; the UK only after GCSEs at 16. Dutch teachers expect to try a tool, not be told about it. Italian and Thai partners run larger, more centralised events where structure and visibility matter more than intimacy. Treat those as cultural quirks and you end up with a compromise design that flatters no one. Treat them as structural facts about how each country actually teaches, buys, and gathers, and you can build one modular spine that flexes by design, not by accident.

WHAT I DID

Synthesised four in-depth interviews with Apple Education Partners across the four markets, covering engagement formats, content priorities, space design, logistics, and sustainability. Built a comparative education-system benchmark to explain why each market behaved differently. Translated those findings into concrete design requirements, zone by zone, market by market, and shaped the strategic brief that the Molo's modular, S-shaped design responded to.

THE IDEA IT BECOME

One structure, four readings. The same curved spine that gives the Netherlands flexible collaboration pods becomes a presentation stage with breakout benches in the UK, a privacy-giving divider in 200m² Italian venues, and an open standing demo zone built for Thailand's high-traffic exhibition halls. Apple's brand discipline stays constant — minimal, premium, unmistakably Apple — while every functional decision underneath it is built from what each market's own partners said they needed.

WHAT HAPPENED

💡 Apple Education Partners across all four markets responded directly and positively to the Molo concept in interview, from the Netherlands calling the collaborative space "a genius idea," to the UK & Ireland flagging its "wow factor," to Italy saying it should "become quickly a standard setup."

💡 The research directly shaped a single design framework specific enough to satisfy four different sets of operational and cultural requirements without diluting the brand.

💡 Delivered as a fully costed, market-by-market strategic and design rationale ready for Apple's evaluation.
